Objective
The project aims to protect and conserve the natural and cultural wealth of the southern region of the Ecuadorian Amazon by supporting sustainable agricultural practices that incorporate valuable indigenous ancestral knowledge about the traditional crops and environment. This will be achieved by promoting the recuperation of traditional agricultural practices among Shuar indigenous families to increase agricultural productivity and income and reduce the loss of ancestral knowledge.
Specific Objectives
1. Conserve the region’s agricultural biodiversity in order to prevent the extinction of plant species useful to the Shuar people.
2. Promote greater use of the Aja Shuar system, especially among women in at least five indigenous communities in Morona Santiago.
3. Increase the incomes of 500 indigenous individuals through the sale of products originating from Aja Shuar farming practices.
4. Catalog lessons learned to improve sustainable agricultural practices in the area.
