Objective
The Integrated Municipal Development Program, implemented by a consortium led by IOM, strengthens democracy and local development, building the capacities of local governments and the civil society of eight cantons of the northern and southern border regions of Ecuador, promoting governance through shared decision-making among the State, the citizenry and the private sector, and advocating for the decentralization of functions as a governmental policy agenda
Specific objectives
1) Supporting five local governments in the northern Amazon region in order to improve the services, the infrastructure and the citizen participation in Cascales, Putumayo, Joya de los Sachas, Orellana y Archidona. This project will improve the citizen participation, the public-private partnerships, socially responsible businesses and the capacities of the municipal government that are directed at achieving a well-run local government (Goal 12 from MDG 8);
2) Maximizing the health impacts from the water and sanitation infrastructure through sanitation and hygiene education in three southern cantons (Arenillas, Calvas and Pindal);
3) Contribute to improve the local government in three southern cantons (Arenillas, Calvas and Pindal) by promoting participation, socially responsible businesses and adequate management of the municipal services
4) Facilitating access to basic water and sanitation services, fostering positive health and hygiene behaviour, and promoting environmental health and local self-management in the communities of Cañas adn San Vicente del Jobo in the Arenillas canton, El Oro province.
